Policy Brief- Performance and Prospects of Democracy in Pakistan: Political Scenarios Affecting the Elections 2013

This is policy paper based on conceptual and theoretical understanding about the political scenario that can affect 2013 General Elections. The brief discusses three major issues: First, the security challenges and political parties’ aspirations and policy objectives. Second, elections and their relationship with democratic essentials such as rule of law, respect and tolerance, minority rights, religious and cultural pluralism and freedom of association. Third, under the PPP-led coalition government, the changed scenario of civil military relations and impact on electoral process and representative democracy.
